3 Tips to Starting CrossFit

CrossFit is a unique, challenging workout that can be as fun and rewarding as it is physically demanding. The benefits of CrossFitting include increased cardiovascular endurance, improved balance and stability, improvement in body composition (i.e., fat loss), and an increase in strength. You’ll also see improvements in your agility and flexibility with regular practice because of all the variety present within each session.

If you’re considering starting CrossFit, these 3 tips will help make the transition easier. Make sure to do your research and find a gym that has certified trainers before trying out this type of workout in order to get the most benefit from it.

  1. Start slow. Beginning with easier movements, lighter weights, or shorter distances. The intensity in CrossFit is different from other fitness programs, hold yourself back for those first few sessions and take the guidance from the coach during the session. After a while, you’ll know what’s best for you, when to push yourself a little harder.
  2. Listen to your body. Taking time off between each session means that those individual exercise sessions allow you to focus on technique and not worry about fatigue or soreness from the previous day’s session. This will allow your body to recover properly, which is key in preventing injuries, in time your body will adjust to the new movements and intensity allowing you to increase your weekly number of sessions. Enjoy the process!
  3. Look for a good Community. It’s important to remember that you’re not alone on your fitness journey, and it can be difficult to stay motivated or focused as an individual without the support of others who are equally committed. Not only do others cheer for you in the gym when they see how hard you’re working, but you also have people cheering for you at home! At 360 you’ll find coaches, members, and fellow athletes who are always encouraging, supportive, and willing to lend a hand. They’re there for you in every sense of the word – whether or not your body feels like giving up on any given day. This type of environment will keep you coming back and drive faster results.

CrossFit is a high-intensity, fast-paced workout that will put your body and mind to the test. That’s why it’s critical to refuel before starting the WOD. Drink plenty of water to keep your muscles hydrated, and eat enough protein and carbs to give you the energy to push yourself during those tough workouts! The best thing about this type of exercise is how well it works out all parts of the body; it not only aids in weight loss or strength improvement, but it also has mental health benefits such as reduced anxiety levels.
